Antique Georgian Silver Loving Cup London 1767

Category:
Description Solid silver Georgian period loving cup, hallmarked in London in 1767. Loving cups were shared drinking cups traditionally used at weddings, banquets and other big events to symbolize unity and friendship. It’s very likely that this cup was specially made for a wedding as it carries initials to the one handle and the date ”67” to the other. The makers, IWFK, have not been identified although their marks cover tankards, cups and salts and that makes this piece all the more interesting. It stands 133mm (approx 5 1/4”) high and measures 175mm (approx 7”) from handle to handle. It has a good weight at 375gms. This would make a most romantic gift to buy together. Such a wonderful and substantial piece of 253 year old silver to own!
