Bai Lin Gong Fu Black Tea – A Treasured Fujian Classic Origin & Legacy Bai Lin Gong Fu Black Tea [白琳工夫紅茶] is a prized Fujian black tea, named after its birthplace—the historic tea-growing region of Bailin 白琳, Fuding. While Fuding is celebrated as the origin of white tea, it also nurtures this centuries-old black tea: Bai Lin Gong Fu, a refined black tea with a legacy dating back to the Qing Dynasty (18th century). We sourced these two exceptional batches—an award-winning premium grade and a classic grade —directly from our partner tea gardens in Fuding. Award-winning premium grade Classic grade Appearance: Tight, twists with a lustrous dark hue, adorned with occasional golden buds. Liquor: Bright, translucent amber with a golden rim, radiating warmth. Tasting Profile: A layered bouquet of sweet potato, honeyed florals, and ripe fruit, lifting with an invigorating freshness. Silky-smooth with a clean, sweet vibrancy—notes of orchid-like “hao xiang” (pekoe aroma) glide into a mellow, rounded body. Remarkably long-lasting over multiple infusions. Dry Leaves Wet Leaves What Makes It “Gong Fu” (Kung Fu)? Gong Fu black teas are handcrafted with precision, using tender leaves and time-honored techniques that demand patience and skill. The result? Elegantly slender leaves, a radiant “tangerine-red” liquor, and a signature sweet-potato fragrance that defines China’s finest black teas. History With 250 years of heritage, Bai Lin Gong Fu stands among China’s oldest Gong Fu black tea. Records from The Tea Bible (“茶經”) hint at Fuding’s tea fame—its “White Tea Mountain” (likely today’s Bailin 白琳, Dian Tou 點頭, and Panxi 潘溪 districts in Fujian) yielded leaves that birthed this iconic black tea. By the Qing dynasty, Bai Lin Gong Fu, made from Fuding’s Da Bai and Da Hao cultivars, gained global acclaim, exported to Southeast Asia and Europe as a symbol of Fujian’s tea artistry. In the 1950s, Bai Lin Gongfu earned its esteemed status as the leading “Three Gongfu Black Teas of Fujian” , together with “Tanyang Gongfu” and “Zhenghe Gongfu”. Bai Lin Gongfu Black Tea achieved the illustrious Panama Gold Award and even captivated the palate of the Queen of England, with the Royal Museum preserving its collections.
