Japanese Kutani Coffee Set

Description This is a complete hand painted black and gold coffee set marked ‘Kutani China’, made in Japan. It comprises of 6 cups and saucers, a coffee pot, milk jug and sugar basin with lid. The Kutani factory was very well known for their hand painted pieces which were traditionally painted in burnished orange, black and gold with occasional touches of pink. This set would not have a great deal of age and was probably made in the c1950’s. Each cup has a lithophane image of a geisha at the bottom which you can clearly see when holding it up to the light. The cups are made of very fine eggshell porcelain and the remainder of the set are a thicker porcelain. All the pieces are in good condition but for a tiny section of black paint missing from one saucer and to the milk jug. Please see the photos. This is a lovely collector’s item for those who like Japanese or Oriental porcelain and in particular, those who collect lithophane china.
