Description Antique Chinese ceramic turquoise moon figure, 18th century. Dimensions: 14.0 x 16.0 x 9.5 cm. History of Turquoise Glaze: Turquoise monochrome glaze on porcelain. Turquoise glaze owes its color to copper oxide in an alkaline glaze mixture. Turquoise glaze goes back a long way to Chinese pottery, and at least as far back as the Tang Dynasty. The interest seems to be shared with the Middle Easter potters, but the methods they used to arrive at similar results were different. The technology also varied depending on the material to which the glaze was to be applied. Turquoise appears intermittently on porcelain as early as the Yuan period.
